Founded by friends at the University of Edinburgh in 2015, Tala has since grown to a team of 40 and operates out of 18 markets around the globe, spanning the residential and commercial sectors. Tala’s sustainability agenda is represented in every detail, from the manufacturing process through to the Ten Trees programme, which supports reforestation efforts in the UK and the US. 10 trees are planted for every 200 units sold and Tala is on target to plant 35,000 trees by spring 2018.
Maison et Object 2018 was one of the events selected by the brand to present its newest collection. The Porcelain range offers an alternative design aesthetic to the exposed LED filament style the brand is recognised for, exploring primary geometries and new processes to create a series of contemporary, pared-back designs.

Centred around four distinctive shapes – Oval, Oblo, Enno and Noma – each bulb has been moulded from matte glass before being individually mouth-blown and sandblasted to create a series of unique and characterful forms that work as well in a series as they do on their own. “By developing a matte porcelain finish, we flattened the perception of the bulb’s form which enabled us to play with its geometries. Incorporating Art Déco influences, the range is based on four primary shapes: the oval, triangle, square and pentagon”, said Joe Armitage, Design Director at Tala.
Designed to provide an antidote to an overly industrialised aesthetic, the sophisticated yet playful units work well with bold colours and backgrounds, breaking up space and colour with calm orbs of white light that create an atmosphere of serene harmony in any context.
